D.C. Native, Elijah B., honored SJBAdvocacy LLC with our first exclusive interview to talk about his passion for entertainment. We asked Elijah some questions about his craft and his idea of success. You can find the interview below.
Where are you from, and how does that affect your craft?
I’m from Washington, DC—a city with a rich culture and a rhythm all its own. DC’s hustle, authenticity, and diverse voices shape how I approach storytelling on the Black Truck podcast. It’s a town where conversations matter, and I bring that same energy to everything I create.
What made you get started?
I’ve always been passionate about conversations that matter and amplifying voices that don’t always get the spotlight. The idea for Black Truck came from just wanting to share honest, unfiltered perspectives while driving through the city and having real talks with friends.
Who are your biggest influences, musical or otherwise?
My influences range from local trailblazers like Chuck Brown and Go-Go culture to media legends like Charlamagne tha God. And of course, the everyday folks I meet on my entrepreneurial grind—they inspire me just as much as the big names.
What’s your favorite platform to post content? Why?
Instagram, without a doubt. It’s visual, fast, and personal. Plus, it allows me to engage directly with listeners and followers in real time. It’s where the culture thrives.
How do you define success in your space?
Success is when someone tells me that an episode of Black Truck changed their perspective or sparked a necessary conversation. It’s not about the numbers—it’s about impact.
How do you improve your craft?
I listen and learn. Whether it’s feedback from listeners, advice from peers, or inspiration from other creators, I’m always open to growth. You can’t evolve if you’re not paying attention.
Do you have a dream project?
I’d love to turn Black Truck into a full-blown media platform—video series, live events, and collaborations with other creators. The goal is to create a movement that represents authentic storytelling.
What was your first professional experience in the music industry?
It was helping organize a local event featuring up-and-coming DC artists. That experience taught me the importance of community and collaboration.
How has your style changed over time?
I’ve become more intentional about the conversations I curate. Early on, I was just excited to record, but now it’s about ensuring each episode has a purpose and leaves listeners with something valuable.
What are your most valued skills as a creative?
Authenticity and adaptability. I pride myself on being real and staying open to new ideas. In this space, being able to pivot and keep things fresh is key.
